Atherosclerosis is a desease of arteries with characteristic changes of the artery wall. A buildup of lipids, cholesterol and calcium induce a loss of elasticity due to wall thickening.

Common complications are an increased blood pressure, cardiac infarctions, strokes, and other cardiovascular deseases.
